  • Great Japanese Recipes - Yakitori

    Japanese Recipes - Main : Yakitori, Side : Gomaae

    Today, there are more and more people getting interested with Japanese recipes. Why? This is because they are not only taste great, but they are also relatively healthier than their American counterparts. Hence, if you have always wanted to try Japanese cuisine but feel that taking raw meat is a bit repulsive, here are Japanese recipes that you might love to try out.



    Main dish: Yakitori
    This grilled chicken Japanese recipes is especially popular to children because of its sweet sauce.

    Ingredients:
    - Chicken parts like thigh meat or liver
    - Japanese Leek *
    - 4 tablespoons of Japanese Shoyu
    - Japanese Mirin or Japanese Rice Wine
    - 3 tablespoons of sugar
    - Honey
    - Bamboo skewers

    *Substitute Negi with leeks or green onion if not available

    Preparation:
    1. Cut the chicken into small even parts about 2 to 3 centimeters.
    2. Mix all the liquid ingredients with sugar and let them simmer with low heat. Wait until the sugar is completely melted.
    3. Marinate the chicken with the sauce and set aside for about 30 minutes.
    4. Cut the Negi into 3 centimeters long while waiting for the marinade to seep in.
    5. When the chicken gets ready, alternately skewer chicken with leeks.
    6. Grill to perfection. Be careful not to burn them.



    Side Dish: Gomaae
    This spinach based Japanese recipes complements Yakitori.

    Ingredients:
    - Fresh Spinach
    - 2 tablespoons sugar
    - 1 tablespoon of Japanese Rice Wine
    - 2 tablespoons of ground sesame seeds
    - 2 tablespoons of Miso (Soybean paste)

    Preparation:
    1. Blanch the spinach.
    2. Dry out the leaves by patting them with dry kitchen cloth or paper towel.
    3. Once dry, cut them approximately 3 centimeters long.
    4. Mix with other ingredients in a different bowl.
    5. Toss the spinach to the mixture and serve.

  • How to Prepare An Easy and Delicious Japanese Food Menu

    When you select to go to a Japanese restaurant, you usually have the tendency to get overwhelmed because of the many choices being made available to you. It is not surprising though that the Japanese food menu is extensive because they have various preparing methods available. Add to the fact that they prefer to be very experimental and flexible in the ingredients they use. While we usually just rely on pork, chicken and beef, they use different sorts of fishes and seafood such as various kinds of eel, shrimp and octopus.

    Since most ingredients used for cooking the items in a Japanese food menu are sourced from Japan, in addition, they are usually prepared by gimportedh chefs, it would usually cost you more money when dining out. Thus, if you love Japanese food but would want to avoid the high costs of specialty restaurant dining, you may likely want to just try preparing recipes you get on the menu.

    One of the popular Japanese foods is sushi. The great news is, it is easy to prepare as long as you have the ingredients namely sushi nori or seaweed (as wrapper for the rice); Japanese rice or sticky rice, crabsticks, avocado, cucumber, tuna or salmon, ginger (for filling); and, sushi vinegar, soy sauce, sesame seed and wasabi (for garnish). Ideally, you put the ingredients on the seaweed, wrap them then cut them.

    Another easy and popular Japanese food are those which use miso ? generally soups. A miso soup is very easy to prepare as well. Have your choice of vegetables ready ? maybe eggplant and zucchini (brush with a little sesame oil and cook in the oven). The miso broth is easily prepared with miso paste, little japanaese sake or water and/or mirin plus seasoning to taste. The vegetables and the stock are combined for the perfect soup.
